Cats scratch to work out their muscles, keep their claws sharp, and mark their territory. A scratching post and nail trims are two ways to keep pets from damaging furniture.
Use aluminium foil or sprays that keep cats away to keep cats from scratching your furniture. Use tape on both sides or furniture pads. Encourage approved places to scratch.
Bengals are intelligent, athletic cats with a wild appearance and a love of play. They require plenty of space and mental stimulation and are so agile that they can turn on switches and reach into drawers!
Give the cat a quick hiss/no when it scratches in an off-limits area. Move them to an approved area, show them fun, and give them treats or praise for a good experience.
Tip: Cut your cat's nails every two to three weeks or put nail caps on them. They cover each nail and lower the risk of damage.
It takes time and consistency to teach a cat not to scratch your sofa. Encouragement helps. Cats are independent, but they can learn to do what they are told.
